Switzerland at the Venice Biennale

More information on the Biennials
Venice biennials count among the most important platforms worldwide for contemporary art and architecture. Switzerland has been represented at the Venice Art Biennale since 1920 and the Architecture Biennale since 1991. As of 2012, Pro Helvetia is responsible for the Swiss contributions at the Biennale.
For the Swiss contribution to the Architecture Biennale 2016, Swiss architect Christian Kerez’s project «Incidental Space» attempts to explore the outer limits of what can be achieved in architecture today. How can you use the medium of architecture to contemplate an architectural space that is entirely abstract and as complex as possible? How could this kind of imaginary space even be visualized, and how could it be produced?
For the 2017 Art Biennale, we have appointed Philipp Kaiser to create the exhibition at the Salon Suisse. Born in Berne and now living and working in Los Angeles, he is among the most renowned Swiss exhibition makers worldwide.
