Folding the Axis: Video United
Folding the Axis
The Covid-19 pandemic has drastically reduced mobility and hindered the connection and exchange with art practitioners from other corners of the world. In this unprecedented time, the rules of the cultural sector are tested, and art activities of the year being shelved. Since June 2020, we have launched this open call as a channel to collect new formats of exchange, international networks or platforms, and experimental forms of artistic collaboration. Finally, we have selected 6 projects that provide ideas to sustain conversation in the times of pervading immobility.
Video United is a special programme of the Centre for Experimental Film (CEF) dedicated to the exchange and development of international experimental films. CEF invites international museums, art galleries, video art institutions to participate in this section. The platform provides the institutions with an independent operating system, professional online technical support and media promotion, highlighting video art on a wider stage in the internet era.
In 2021, CEF plans to launch their bilingual website, to connect with international institutions with artist film and video screening right, to assist in the localisation of content for international institutions, and to promote collaboration amongst international institutions with local theatres, museums and exhibitions, hence creating furthermore exchange content in screenings and forums. Video art as a streaming media is a unique medium to foster exchange and communication online during the pandemic.
Swiss institutions will be invited to participate in CEF Video United section and to curate online exhibitions/screenings. Through the network of CEF, they will also have the opportunity to organise talks or screenings inside theatres and museums in China.
