As a pioneer of Swiss International Typographic Style, Josef Miller-Brockmann established the system theory of grid design and promoted the evolution of the Swiss style with his contemporaries. The research on Brockmann at home and abroad is still a place to be explored. As one of the precious researchers, Swiss designer and artist Demian Conrad will attend the online lecture site via overseas connection to fill in the gap in the research on Brockmann.
Demian Conrad is a designer and researcher. Since 2007, he has been a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale and headed up Automatico Studio, a multidisciplinary consultancy that works on visual identities, editorial design and way-finding. The studio has won three consecutive awards: 100 Beste Plakate (2009–2011), first prize at the European Design Awards (2013), as well as the prestigious Art Director Club Award (2017). Conrad currently also teaches at HEAD-Genève.
In this lecture, he will explain in depth the importance of Brockmann and the evolution of the Swiss style today, as well as the influence of Brockmann on his own work. The lecture is supported by Pro Helvetia Shanghai, Swiss Arts Council, planned by the First Books Studio of Shanghai People’s Fine Arts Publishing House, and media supported by LU JUNYI DESIGN LIVE.
