Rio Wolta is a rock musician from Zurich, Switzerland, who survived his teens in the Swiss Alps and formed his first band at the age of 15. After playing concerts and releasing albums for nearly 10 years with several bands, he decided to continue as a solo artist. At the same time, he started working for theater, film and performance projects. He’s into dancing machines, fake stories about truth and Patti Smith’s performance at the Nobel Prize ceremony. Good music for him is always sensual, sometimes ironic and never explicit.
Rio Wolta released his solo debut single THROUGH MY STREET in August 2015. The music video which he wrote together with the director Piet Baumgartner programmed at several film festivals (Raindance London, Cleveland Film Festival, Interfilm Berlin i.a.) and won awards at festivals such as International Music Video Festival Paris, Sehsüchte Festival Babelsberg, Austin Music Video Festival or M4music Zurich.
Released the debut album SWING FOR THE NATION in September 2015 (Irascible/Coldkings). Wrote and performed MASCHINEN at Gessnerallee Zurich together with Rahel Hubacher and Piet Baumgartner (October 2016).
